Any way to fight my school bus ticket?

May 31st, 2010 Melanie 5 comments

I’m going to superior court tomorrow in North Carolina, because last month I was convicted of passing a school bus. I don’t believe I did this. The court has changed the date of the incident three times (from May 31st to May 15 to March 15 and lastly to March 31st) I recieved the ticket in June 05 and wa not convicted until June 06. The bus driver does not remember what time the incident occurred, and although I do not have a copy of the ticket in my posesson (took for evidence?) I don’t believe the road names match up. All they have against me is that the bus driver wrote down my plate number…on a piece of paper she no longer has. I have no record, and if I honestly believed I had passed the school bus I would be glad to atone for it. Just looking for ya’lls thoughts.
Again, didn’t do it.

Teen Daughters Rights?

May 31st, 2010 Melanie 4 comments

My daughter was in a bad car accident 6 years ago and her case just settled and I am not sure that I am trusting my attorney. He is saying that her money has to go into a probate account until she is 18 years of age, yet we haven’t seen any of her money or singed anything since we came to a settlement over a month ago. His firm is still trying to negotiate her total medical records and once that is known, then I have to decide if if I want to put her money in a Probate account or a structured settlement. My attorney is pushing for a structured settlement, however I am not sure that is safe, seeing how they are not FDIC insured and with the way the economy is today, this is frightning. I am not a bad parent, I work 50 hours a week and own my own home and do not have a need for her money. However the attorney is saying that the courts will not trust me with my childs money because most parents will spend their childs money on swimming pools and such. My fear is once my child turns 18, it is possible that she will cash in her settlement, if the company has not gone under and lose a great deal of money for cashing in on it and then run away with a crazy boyfriend and who knows what will happen then. Though my daughter is pretty level headed and a senior in high school, I fear that she has told many friends of her settlement and they may wish to take advantage of this. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am not saying that I want her money!
I am saying that I am paying for her to go to school and I want her to be able to have her money when she is 30 or 40 years old and needs the money for her family. I am just wondering if the Probate deal is correct information that I am receiving from my attorney. And a Structured Settlement, if I choose that route, which is my decission to make because she is not 18 year of age, is NOT FDIC Insured. – sorry if I was not more clear in my original question.
