I researched this and i still have some questions: Confidential marriage license: The confidential license is only for couples currently living together. While no proof is required, you’re both stating under penalty of perjury that you are. With the confidential license, your vital and personal information is not public record (no junk mail, media or internet searches) and information can only be obtained by the couple, or by a court order. This type of license is is perfect for high profile couples such as; celebrities, business leaders, politicians, law enforcement, etc., and anyone else who does not have the luxury of time off from work and waiting in long lines. This license can be obtained in any county in California, but may only be used in the county in which it is issued. Witnesses are not required, and the license can be notary issued afterhours and on weekends. Does this mean that someone can say they are living with someone else when they really don’t and they won’t be checked because it says that there needs to be no proof? And what do you do with your marriage license after you get married? Does anything ship to your home that says that you are married?
Also, in most cases, do they check if the couple is living together?

The Confidential Marriage License was originally created in the 1800′s to protect confidentiality. At that time, it was common for people already living together not to get married because they feared that other people would learn that they weren’t married all along. The Confidential Marriage License is not open record, which means it requires your signature to obtain a copy.
If you are married under the authority of a license issued by the County Clerk as opposed to the Confidential Marriage License, your license will be open to public inspection. Anyone who wishes may go to the County Clerk’s office and look at marriage licenses and all of the personal information contained in it. They may do this for any reason
But the Confidential Marriage Certificate is NOT available for this purpose. Only you may get certified copies of the Certificate. You are the only one who controls access to the document. If someone wants a copy of your certificate and you refuse to give it to them, they will have to get a court order to obtain it. Of course, the court would not give such an order to anyone without good cause.
